“Monocle” model windshield - 1909

The famous Mercer "Raceabout" came from the factory without a windshield, which was optional on some brands, or available from manufacturers selling them on the aftermarket. This round glass and polished brass design was perfect for keeping dust, insects and rain out of the first motorist's eyes. Many of them folded when not needed.
